KARACHI, Aug 27: The British police raided two places including an office of a Pakistan based political party in London in connection with the ongoing murder investigation of Dr Imran Farooq and took the crucial evidence in custody including the carpets for forensic investigation, it is reported.
According to reports, 35 officers of the Scotland Yard took part in the operation on Aug 24.
It is reported that the two persons arrested in Karachi were actually coming from Colombo and had connections with the murder of Dr Imran Farooq. The arrests took place as a result of a tip-off from British authorities. However, it is learnt that the two were still in custody of Pakistani Intelligence agencies and negotiations between the Scotland yard and the Pakistani agencies are goingon in connection with their handover to the British authorities.
According to reports, both Khalid Shamim and another person who were arrested in Karachi while arriving from Colombo, were actually called in by their own party.
They had crucial information relating to Dr Imran Farooq's murder as well as target killing cells in various countries including South Africa, it is learnt. They knew much about the party affairs with whom they were affiliated. It is said that they were called to Karachi to keep them silent but on their arrival they were arrested by the Pakistani Intelligence agencies from Karachi Airport on Aug 22.
Sources said that both were lucky to be alive in the custody of Pakistani authorities. It is learnt that they have disclosed some very important information which may help solve Imran Farooq Murder and also catch target killers.
However, the Pakistani Intelligence agencies are silent in this regard. The political observers are of the view that due to political bargaining between the Government and the party with whom they belong kept intelligence agencies mum. However, the sources said that the Scotland Yard's police are in touch with them and most likely the team will reach Islamabad for further action.
